At the Estate we grow a variety of Mediterranean aromatic plants such as coriander, geranium, thyme, lavenders. But the main attraction is the aromatic roses for tea. (Damask roses variety).
These roses come from the mountains of Pitsilia, planted in the Estate five years ago and produce a fantastic aroma. The pedals are hand picked early in the morning during March-April so to fully preserve the oil and aroma, naturally dried under strict conditions so to offer a wonderful relaxing evening tea.
Poets and artists have paid homage to this sweet-smelling flower. When used in food or beverages, it imparts a mellow, floral quality to the aroma.
Tasting Notes: Unmistakable floral top notes reminiscent of a freshly cut flower.
Tea Liquor: Light copper
Ingredients: Cyprus Damask rose petals.
Trachonas Estate cultivates Damask roses (Rosa damascena). These roses are among the oldest members of the rose family, dating back thousands of years. They are known for their white or pink double flowers and their strong, distinctive fragrance, which is why the flowers are often used in making perfumes. Damask roses are easy to grow, resistant to disease and will make a lovely, fragrant centerpiece for your garden. The Damask rose, also known as the Damascus Rose or the Rose of Castile, originated in the Eastern Mediterranean as a natural hybrid between the Gallica rose and a wild rose species. The plants have medium-green leaves and white or pink flowers clusters on heavily thorned stems. These rose bushes arch as they grow to heights of 8 feet, and some of the stems may need to be staked.
Most Damask rose varieties bloom only once, although the Autumn Damask will bloom in early summer and again in the fall.
Because of the medicinal properties of rose, it is widely used in medicine. One cup of fresh rose hips has the equivalent amount of vitamin C in 60 oranges. Rose tea (tea made with rose petals and hips) is not a new idea.
Why roses are considered an ideal gift to express love? There is an interesting reason for this. Roses soothe heart and emotions. They also balance the mind.
The rose pedals tea has diuretic effects as they contain Vitamin C, pectin, malic and citric acids.
